SEARCH FOR FAIRIES
Are you box set mad? We are. We can’t get enough of the latest US TV shows. We’re particularly fond of cop shows. Whether it’s Law & Order, CSI or Gotham – we’re all over it. Fine for an evening’s entertainment, but it can prove problematic.
The other week, we organised a ‘searching for fairies’ party. It would have been fine but we brought DNA swabs and UV lights; and preceded to jump over the car bonnet and push ‘perps’ up against the wall to get the answers we needed.
It’s fair to say, we took it too far.
But, if you are looking for a fun activity, we can’t recommend searching for fairies enough. It’s a great way of getting little ones to explore nature in their own back garden, with a little extra magic thrown in.
If you want to take part then we have some tips to help your little Columbos out, here’s what we recommend.
When investigating a mystery like this, you want a notepad. Worth it for taking witness statements from garden gnomes and snails, or even drawing pictures of the clues you find. We find good cop, bad toddler works a treat.
The world’s greatest detective – Sherlock Holmes – used a magnifying glass and who are we to criticise him? A magnifying glass is just what you need for finding tiny clues or even little notes from the fairies themselves.
There’s bound to be a lot of evidence around, so make sure you have something to collect it all in. A music box, shoebox or even a little bucket are all good containers. We prefer evidence bags, or failing that, sandwich bags.
As we’ve already mentioned, there are tons of clues around, so make sure to keep your eyes open. Here’s a list of potential clues:
Bowls (acorn cups)
Make a den
Once you’ve compiled enough clues, then you just have to wait. Build a den using blankets, cushions and throws, with some twigs, leaves and grass. Then lay your findings out and wait to see if any fairies come looking. Then put them away for 2-5 years.
Sorry, that’s the box sets talking.
Good luck searching for fairies and don’t forget to share your findings with us!
