BRINGING ALICE’S ADVENTURES IN WONDERLAND TO MAMAS & PAPAS
Dreams are important. We all need to dream – it’s where our passion, excitement and imagination can really be let loose.
OK, so as a parent there’s precious little sleep going on, not to mention dreaming; but for little ones, there’s plenty of time for it. It’s how they help make sense of the world and each new experience. So it makes perfect sense that one of the best-loved children’s stories is based on a young girl and her vivid day dreams.
Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland was written by Lewis Carroll and published in 1865. It quickly established itself as a children’s classic. Yet it wasn’t until Walt Disney decided to adapt it into an animated feature, that the most iconic incarnation of the story was born. A long-held dream of Disney’s, the film Alice in Wonderland arrived nearly a hundred years after the original, in 1951. The film introduced millions of children to this unique and, frankly odd, world. Giving the story an unmistakable Disney twist, it was destined to become a family favourite for generations.
Disney boasts many amazing things, from a back catalogue of much-loved films to theme parks that are as close as it’s possible to experiencing dreams first-hand. More than that, however, Disney is home to hundreds of the most instantly-recognisable characters – from Mickey and Minnie Mouse, through to Aladdin, Elsa and Snow White. For over 100 years they have been able to create characters that make us laugh, cry and feel. Oh how they make us feel. Anyone who has broken down while watching Lady and the Tramp can’t deny the power they possess.
Alice in Wonderland is almost an exception, because it doesn’t introduce us to two or three memorable characters, but a whole world of them. From the scatty pompous Dodo, the short-tempered Caterpillar and the permanently unpunctual White Rabbit; to the gloriously daft Mad Hatter, the sneakily sinister Cheshire Cat and the terrifying Queen of Hearts. (And the King).
We were never going to fit all of these memorable Wonderland citizens into our new clothing collection; but we’ve done our best. Following on from our incredibly popular Pinocchio and Bambi collaborations, this Alice in Wonderland range captures the eclectic styling and deep, rich colours of Alice’s fevered dreams.
With tutus, tees, jersey dresses, sweaters, waistcoats and hats fit for the maddest tots; we’ve combined our intricately detailed clothing with Disney’s unique sensibility to create something truly special.
