FLIP XT REVIEW BY SIOBHAN MILLER
The Armadillo Flip XT with compatible kit is an all-singing, all-dancing travel system which will see you all the way through, from day one to when your child no longer needs a pushchair. It’s stylish in design, robust in build, is packed with luxury touches and does just about everything (make that does everything) you would want it to do ever.
Let’s start with the seat, which can be parent-facing or forward-facing, so whichever option you or your baby prefers, you’re sorted. Unlike other such pushchairs, it’s super easy to switch between these two modes. This is a massive selling point for me as I love being able to see and talk to my baby whilst out and about, but equally he does sometimes get bored of my face, so it’s nice to be able to mix things up. (The great thing about the Armadillo Flip XT is that even though it has this feature it can still be folded down very easily as one and is pretty compact once collapsed.)
The seat is also really, really roomy and I’ve no doubt it will easily and comfortably accommodate a large toddler (although I’m not there yet!). It reclines for naps as you’d expect, and the footrest can be lifted up for extra comfort, but the best bit is the luxury padded liner that comes as standard for you little one’s cruising comfort. It makes a massive difference to how comfortable the seat is and boosts the overall look and finish of the pushchair.
If you plan to use the Armadillo Flip XT from day one then you should definitely get the compatible carrycot which is available to go with it. Lots of prams on the market claim to be suitable from birth because the seat can recline to flat, but it’s not ideal having a tiny fragile newborn bouncing around in a massive seat, strapped down by a heavy-duty multi-point harness. In my opinion it’s far, far better to have a carrycot option so you can swaddle your precious newborn and tuck them up all cosy and snug in the comfort of a carrycot, allowing them to feel safe and secure. With the carrycot attached you can easily see your small baby and they are protected from the elements. They can also sleep safely flat on their back on the mattress inside, following the guidelines for safe sleep. It’s not hard to see really that a pushchair with a compatible carrycot is a clear winner when it comes to choosing a suitable travel system for a new baby.
The added bonus of a carrycot of course is that when you park up for a coffee or even when you get home, if baby is happily snoozing they can be left to sleep without the need to move them and disturb them. Again this is a massive plus.
Another option that is available to complete your set up is the compatible footmuff. The footmuff is actually amazing. It’s really padded with thick quilting, is super warm and looks really smart. It hands down beats many other options I’ve tried in the past which sag and constantly need tugging up into position. This footmuff is designed specifically for the Armadillo Flip XT and fits like a dream. If you’re going to be out and about this winter, definitely invest.
And finally the pram is an all-terrain model, meaning it can tackle pretty much anything. From city streets to muddy paths to grassy banks, the Armadillo Flip XT can navigate its way without a problem. The wheels can fully swivel meaning easy manoeuvrability, or they can be locked in position for off road adventures. It’s by no means the lightest pram on the market and when loaded with child and baggage it can feel heavy at times, but then again it’s no basic stroller. It’s sturdy, it will last forever*, it can go anywhere and it’s supremely comfortable for your little VIP. Oh and it looks good to push, let’s not forget that bit!
